Newsletters are quite important for any business that is trying to build a long term relationship with its customers and consequently gain their trust. A newsletter is the best tool for achieving this goal because it helps you stay constantly connected to your customer which in turn enables you to inform them about your business and products. Making a newsletter is quite easy but still some people find it difficult to start it on their own. There are several steps involved in making the newsletter, among them is choosing a format for the newsletter.

There are three main newsletter formats. Each format has its advantages and disadvantages. The text newsletter is still the most popular format because it is easy to make and compatible with all sorts of email clients and services. PDF newsletters are also common but not as numerous as the other two formats. HTML newsletters are increasingly growing in popularity because they provide dozens of options and features. These features enable the publisher to customize their newsletter and shape it the way they want.

HTML enables the newsletter designer to change colors, add photos, insert links, switch fonts, add tables and customize the whole newsletter layout. But this by no means suggests that HTML newsletters are perfect and have no cons. The main disadvantage of HTML is its incompatibility with several email clients. It is true that probably all the major email service providers support HTML, however, there are several small ones which do not or at least not fully support it. When designing your newsletter, it is recommended that you make scarce use of graphics and the rich editing features of HTML because this will distract your readers and make your newsletter slow to load.

Which format to use depends mainly on what you are looking for. Each format is suitable for one specific purpose but there is no format which can serve all purposes.
